Photography Competition

Just Giving | Flickr | Matts Canvas

I'll be walking across South Africa to raise £3,500 for Breast Cancer Care. This will be a challenge, but one I'm looking forward to. Not least because I'll be trekking through some of the most dramatic scenery on Earth, and hope to take some pictures - and that gave me an idea for fund raising; a photo competition!

We all love photos. Photos of family and friends, photos of pets, photos that make us laugh or cry. By sponsoring a minimum of just £2.00, you can take part in a photo competition, very kindly sponsored by Ayrshire company MattsCanvas - www.mattscanvas.co.uk.  The winner will receive an amazing 22 x 32 inch giclĂ©e boxed canvas of their winning photo.

To enter, please sponsor me on my Just Giving page, including your full name and end your good luck message with "photocomp." Then, just email your photograph to me at janet.africatrek@yahoo.co.uk.

Your photo will appear on the MattsCanvas site, and on Flickr, too, at www.flickr.com/janetafricatrek/

You can vote for your favourite picture on the MattsCanvas site.  The overall winner - the picture with the most votes by the closing date (Thursday, 30 June 2011) - will receive the fabulous prize. So tell your friends and family to vote on your photo for a better chance of winning!

The legal stuff.
By entering the competition, you will be signing up to receive our sponsor's email newsletter.  The newsletter - from which you can unsubscribe at any time, will alert you to special offers, as well as offering photography and design tutorials.  Our sponsor, MattsCanvas, will never share your details with anyone else. Ever.

Janet's Africa Trek

My name is Janet, I’m 50 years old and I live in Scotland. This photograph of me was taken just before breast cancer interrupted my life.

Breast Cancer Care have supported me throughout the 22 months of my treatment with information, advice and practical help. I had my last treatment on 28th December and now I want to do something to make sure they can help the many thousands of other women (and men) who will be diagnosed each year.

Walking is something even I can do, so, in November 2011, I will be trekking in South Africa.

I have pledged to raise a minimum of £3500 for Breast Cancer Care and need to raise this amount by July 2011.

If you would like to help please give what you can.

I've started training in earnest now that the evenings are lighter for a bit longer. My Retriever, Monty, is my constant companion on my training walks. There's no slacking with Monty so he helps me keep up my pace. We manage about 11-12 miles most weekends now and 3 miles or so in the evening after work.

I looked up the Potberg Mountains on Google Earth recently and realised that I need to do a bit more hillwalking! We had to go a bit further afield than Ayrshire since hills here are a bit scarce. I managed a few over the Easter holiday and now I know I need to improve my aerobic fitness.

As summer approaches I'm getting up ealier and taking Monty out before I go to work in the morning. I still haven't managed to lose any weight yet. Well..... walking makes you hungry!
